Initial Salary Step Calculation

All new partial-load and full-time faculty follow the same initial salary step calculation formula, outlined in the collective agreement (“JOB CLASSIFICATION PLANS FOR POSITIONS IN THE ACADEMIC BARGAINING UNIT“). The initial salary step is calculated based on the individual’s relevant educational and work experience.

Changes to the 2017-2021 collective agreement (from previous agreement):

  • Faculty hired prior to October 1, 2017 are capped at a maximum educational credit of six (6) years.
  • Faculty hired after October 1, 2017, the maximum educational credit is seven (7) years.
  • As of October 1, 2017, the College may grant up to 5 discretionary steps (previously 3 discretionary steps) to an individual on a case-by-case basis, at the hiring manager’s discretion.
