New: See Get to know your CA: initial salary step calculation for a detailed explanation of the initial salary step calculation.
All new partial-load and full-time faculty follow the same initial salary step calculation formula, outlined in the collective agreement (“JOB CLASSIFICATION PLANS FOR POSITIONS IN THE ACADEMIC BARGAINING UNIT“). The initial salary step is calculated based on the individual’s relevant educational, work experience, and (NEW) Indigenous Knowledge (where applicable).
- Faculty may use this Initial Salary Step Calc – blank template (Aug 2018) (Excel spreadsheet) to verify that you’ve been placed in the correct step of the salary grid.
Changes to the 2017-2021 collective agreement:
- Faculty hired prior to October 1, 2017 are capped at a maximum of six (6) years credit for formal qualifications.
- For faculty hired after October 1, 2017, the cap for formal qualification credits is seven (7) years.
- As of October 1, 2017, the College may grant up to 5 discretionary steps (previously 3 discretionary steps) to an individual on a case-by-case basis, at the hiring manager’s discretion.
NEW Changes to the 2021-2024 collective agreement:
- NEW Indigenous faculty who are hired into roles that relate to Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing can be given up to 10 points in recognition of Indigenous Knowledge. Salary calcs for all affected faculty should be reviewed, and will be retroactively paid as of Oct 1, 2021 or their date of hire (whichever is later).
