Medical Exemption for Wearing a Mask:

Staff who require a medical exemption for wearing a mask on campus must go through the employee accommodation process via Hiren Patel (Hiren.Patel@humber.ca).

Students who require a medical exemption for wearing a mask on campus must go through the student accommodation process via Accessible Learning Services. Faculty who have students with medical exemptions will receive a letter from an Accessibility Consultant just as they would with any other student requiring accommodations.

If a student is not wearing a mask in your class:

  1. Remind them to wear a mask (they may have just forgotten). Extra masks are available at building entrances, with security, and may also be purchased at the bookstore.
  2. If they say they have a medical exemption, ask if they have contacted an Accessibility Consultant yet. If they have, then you should have received a letter; check your Humber email, or ask to see documentation. If they have not, ask them make an appointment; the student may not be aware of Humber’s protocol for acquiring a medical exemption on campus.
  3. If you can provide immediate accommodation for the student (ex: there’s a space available that is at least 6 ft away from everyone, or the student is comfortable wearing a face shield in lieu of a mask), they may stay in class. If you cannot accommodate the student, then it is best for everyone’s health and safety if the individual left the class.

At any time, if students are not abiding by health and safety regulations, or are behaving in a way contrary to the Return to Campus agreement or Student Code of Conduct, you may ask the student to leave. Public Safety can also be called should you require assistance.
